About the Series
A Series for Children Who Feel Deeply, Dream Loudly, and Notice Everything
The Essence Books is a non-sequential children's book series for second and third grade readers, centered on a young Black/Brown girl whose ordinary days become rich with meaning, imagination, and discovery. Each book stands on its own, allowing children to meet Essence wherever they are — in their feelings, in their questions, in their creativity, or in their courage.
Rooted in family love, cultural pride, community life, and emotional literacy, the series gives young readers language for their inner worlds while celebrating the everyday magic of childhood. Essence's stories invite children to see themselves as thoughtful, capable, funny, imaginative, and worthy of being the main character.

The Spark Behind the Stories
Essence is the heart-spark behind the series: joyful, imaginative, expressive, observant, creative, and absolutely full of personality. Her curiosity, humor, confidence, and big feelings inspired a literary world where children are allowed to be complex, magical, thoughtful, and fully themselves.
Who Essence Is
She notices the light on the floor. She has opinions about things. She laughs easily, loves deeply, asks questions nobody expected, and feels everything at a volume that fills the room. She is not a simplified version of a child. She is a whole, layered, magnificent one.
Essence represents every child who has been told to be a little less — and who deserves a story that says: be a little more.
Why Her Story Matters
In a world where Black and Brown children are too rarely centered in joyful, literary, emotionally rich stories, Essence takes up space on purpose. She is not a lesson. She is not a symbol. She is a main character — and her ordinary days are extraordinary enough to fill a whole series.

Eugenia Providence is a mother, strategist, systems thinker, and storyteller creating children's literature rooted in Black girl joy, everyday wisdom, family love, and culturally affirming imagination. Her work is shaped by a profound belief that children deserve stories where they are not side characters, symbols, or lessons for someone else — but whole people with questions, feelings, humor, brilliance, and worlds of their own.
Through The Essence Books, Eugenia is building a literary series that honors the emotional lives of children while giving families, classrooms, and communities stories that feel beautiful, useful, and true.
